Connect the camera and viewing device to the same reachable home Wi-Fi. No network app is needed.
Install a private-network app on both devices and connect them to the same network. An eligible free personal plan is enough for a small home setup; provider terms and limits apply.
Tailscale is the tested iOS setup. Other options require compatible routing and camera addresses. The network software is replaceable.

Open the camera’s viewing link in a browser, or add it to the free iPhone and iPad Viewer ↗ to watch several cameras. You can also use the self-hosted Web app.
Setup times are estimates. The iPhone camera app must stay open; locking the phone or putting the app in the background pauses capture. Live viewing only — recording is planned.

Your browser connects to your server; your server connects to your cameras. Join them to your private network, use HTTPS and a strong server password, and keep camera ports closed to the internet. The server relays video, so use a machine you trust.

A clearer picture.
Do I need a subscription or a VPN?
No CamWeave subscription. At home, use the same reachable Wi-Fi without a VPN. Away from home, a private network such as Tailscale connects your devices; eligible personal use can use its free plan.
Does CamWeave receive my video?
The product website does not receive footage. With direct viewing, video travels from the camera to your viewer. With CamWeave Web, it passes through the server you choose. That server and its administrator must be trusted.
Can it record or send motion alerts?
Not in this first version. CamWeave currently provides live viewing and remote camera controls. Loop recording is planned; no release date is promised.
Can I use an old computer or USB camera?
Yes. The iPhone camera app is on the App Store, and Linux camera source is available for early testing. Native macOS and Windows editions are in development; the open-source Web viewer is available now.
